These are a pretty good piece of cold weather gear. I'm a extra large individual, and this fits over my size 7.5 head fairly easily. Once on, it's the perfect amount of snug, yet not too snug. It's comfortable and warm. I like these so much that I have two of each color now Perfect for really cold conditions under a watch cap, but you can't really pull it up over your nose without problems. It's not made like that, it's cut kinda like the neoprene hoods made for scuba. But, it will keep your chin, neck, forehead and throat well covered, and it is very useful for people that work and play in the great outdoors.

These have kept me warm, without sweating and getting the Balaclava wet. I'd recommend these to anyone working outdoors in a cold climate.

Very nice addition to have with you as a part of your ECWCS. I utilize the ECWCS from L1 (Poly base layer top and bottom warn next to skin itself), L2 (Thicker waffle Poly top and bottom), L3 (Arctic Microfleece), L4 (ECWCS GEN II Rain Parka). This Balaclava is made with the same material as the Level 2 midweight waffle polyestor. If it's below freezing temps, and it there is wind, this is great to wear. If you are in the field, and you are on post or set up in an observation post and not moving for hours at a time, your going to need some strategic layering to keep you warm. For the price, there is no reason not to have this in your clothing inventory.

The most redeeming quality of this item for me is I can breathe easily and unrestricted through it.

Item works best on cool days when it's better then nothing to keep the chill off. I imagine it would work great as a base layer underneath another item.

It you hold it up to the light; it shines through and reveals the grid pattern. Definitely not to be used for wind protection in extreme cold by itself.

The fit is good except for a small area on each side near my eyes. It tends to bulge slightly. Could be the way I tried it on. The look is like rip stop clothing. Kind of a waffle weave design. For me the neck area is long and stays tucked in well even when moving head up and down and side to side. I was also able to pull it down over my head and try it as a neck gaiter. It was a little snug but ok for me. Overall a good value for the price.
