I have a long, steep driveway. The first year that I used these they worked fine to get up and down the driveway. There was no open road driving with them on. Last year I bought a plow for my truck and used the chains once for plowing the driveway with no problem. This year I preattached the chains in preparation for a major snow event. I immediately discovered that on 2 of the chains the retraction mechanism would no longer work. Even with a liberal dose of WD40 it would not retract to tighten the chain. I plowed with the 2 good chains plus 2 other chains. I quickly saw that my driveway was dotted with blue plastic debris. The inside circle of the chain uses small blue plastic spacers to hold the cross chains in their proper position. These were all shattering leaving the cross chains free to slide around on my tires. Fortunately I have knobby rough terrain tires and they snagged the cross chains and prevented them from sliding too much. However the chains are now scrap. I had really hoped that they would have lasted longer than they did. Putting the chains on and removing them was quick and relatively easy.

Bought these chains due to new tires on my truck. Was a bit apprehensive about the auto tightener, but I was impressed. Got snowed in hunting with my 27 foot trailer. Had to drive 40 miles in 2 feet of snow/ice on road just reach hwy. chains did great! Never slipped and super easy to put on and take off.

Looks nice and easy to put on once you do it. But didn't use it in snow..so nit sure how well it will work.

They do work and do go on a bit quicker than regular chains. The pastic parts can and do break though. I use these as my main chains for how quickly they go on and self tension, but I have a spare set that are regular diamond chains. If I had to get only one set, I would get the regular kind and not these, since if you're in a bad situation, you need something that will work and can't risk plastic parts that can break. It's the little handle that flips out that is easily broken. Broke mine when throwing the chains on the ground instead of placing them softly. Also accidentally stepped on them and that broke a piece. The automatic tensioning is also spring loaded so you have to watch that your fingers don't get caught in them when you release the tensioner. They also come in a placsic hard case in stead of a more pliable bag which is very difficult to close.

I bought these for a trip from Minneapolis to San Fransisco and back this winter because tire chains may be required in the mountain passes. I practiced putting them on and off. I did not have to use them but I was ready and I really like these chains.
