2-in/2-out USB Audio Interface Function
The MG16XU's flexible digital connectivity creates quick and easy high-resolution playback of digital content. Simply connect to your PC via USB, or to your iPhone / iPad using Apple's Camera Connection Kit / Lightning to USB Camera Adapter. The USB protocol uses asynchronous data transfer, and audio data is transferred based on the precise clock signal from the MG16XU for high quality recording and playback.
D-PRE Preamps
The preamp is where your sound begins, and determines the quality and character of your overall mix. The importance of this inspired Yamaha to develop the fattest and warmest sounding preamp possible: the D-PRE mic preamp. Perfectly integrated into the MG16XU, the D-PRE delivers more power with lower impedance, meaning the full depth and character of your original sound will be delivered with fat, natural sounding bass and smooth, soaring highs. Having a pure sonic platform to build on will ultimately save you time by eliminating the need for excessive EQing or additional effects processing in order to reach your perfect mix.
1-Knob Compression
Compressing with the MG16XU is made simple with 1-knob compression on channels 1-8. This intelligent compressor adds optimally set compressions when you need livelier guitars, punchier bass lines, a tighter snare, or a cleaner vocal sound with the touch of a single knob.
Switchable Phantom Power & PAD Switch
With phantom power on channels 1-12, the MG16XU allows you to take full advantage of the greater frequency response and sound quality of condenser microphones. The input channels with PAD switch accept MIC to line level of inputs, and the PAD switch reduces high input signals that often accompany instruments during performance, avoiding the clipping that can seriously affect your mix.
EQ and High-Pass Filters
There's nothing more useful than reliable equalization when you need complete control of your tone. The MG16XU benefits from Yamaha's unparalleled experience in designing pro audio gear, featuring 3-band equalizers with sweepable mid frequency on channels 1-8, and 3-band equalizers on channels 9-16 for refined control of your sound. AUX / Effects Sends / Group

Multiple Input/Output Connectors
Yamaha's MG16XU uses high-quality Neutrik balanced XLR connectors on mono microphone/line channels and XLR equipped stereo channels. Each of the mono inputs is equipped with a combo jack and accepts both MIC and LINE level signals. Two of the stereo inputs are equipped with XLR and two phone connectors with XLR accepting MIC level signals while two phone connectors accept LINE level signals and can be used either mono or stereo. Additionally, two of the stereo channels have RCA connectors and can be used for input from external audio sources such as CD players. In addition to the main stereo outputs (XLR L/R, TRS phone L/R), the MG16XU is equipped with a comprehensive suite of output connectors, including GROUP OUT (TRS phone), AUX/FX OUT (TRS phone), MONITOR OUT (TRS phone L/R), and HEADPHONE OUT (stereo phone) connectors, allowing master outputs to be chosen to suit specific applications such as monitoring or mastering.
