Good vise; it is a utility vise for me. I had to de-burr the face plates just to be sure they would not mark my work materials. The acme threads are not precision (just not American machine quality) but with a little white lube and cycling a few times they smoothed up a bit. I like the hollow center so I can drill thru without hitting the vise. The bottom, sides, and end are machined square which makes the vise work wise other than a one-surface vise. The vise surfaces are square and perpendicular to .01, not .001; but I did not pay for a high precision vise. The both face plates appeared smooth; however when I removed them to de-burr, I found a vertical and horizontal V-groove on one plate on one side. Good deal; you can turn them which ever way you desire. It came oiled and wrapped in plastic; no rust. I cleaned it and recoated with white lube. The weight is good; box says 10 lbs, my scale says 9.5.

This vise was a 34;step up34; from the low end vise that came with my drill press so I don't have a background with commercial machine shop vises to compare it with. That said, what I received is a nice, heavy duty (enough for me) vise that holds tightly and does exactly what you'd expect a vise to do. The only con is that several of the edges are quite sharp so plan on taking a few minutes with a file and knocking them down, unless you like metal 34;paper cuts34;. Not enough to drop a star given the price.
