1. In my set (mfg defect) you could not attach any sockets to the ratchet. The detent ball would not move, even with a pretty good squeeze with a pair of pliers. 2. The case will not hold the sockets in place, if you carry it in a truck you will have a pile of sockets every time you open it. I would lay a piece of foam in to fix this. 3. Item 2 is exacerbated by the fact that both the size on the socket and the size in the case are hard to read ( I am old ). The sockets are lightly etched chrome on chrome, the case is clearly marked but black on black. 4. The 34;deep sockets34; are not. The hex recess only goes a short way in. Some might prefer this in some situations however, but it is not standard design. If you do not store these in the case and use a socket tray (such has Hanson) the sockets may not fit, the larger sizes have very small through holes. 5. Others mention the (common size) 13 is missing, mine included that in both shallow and deep. But the sizes do not all match the markings on the case. I received two 10 deep for instance instead of a 10 and a 11 which is delightful as I always lose the 10 and have never seen a 11 in 20 years. Overall not a bad set, maybe a bit better than a Harbor set, maybe equal to a craftsman set but the ratchet felt nicer. Very nice in fact. I returned it because of the fatal flaw with the ratchet, otherwise I think I would have kept it and given 4 stars.

quality and complete

Like most Gearwrench products, this is remarkably nice. I've been a fan of Gearwrench for quite some time - with the decline of Sears Gearwrench has more or less become my go-to brand in lieu of Craftsman. I'm no pro, but I'm a pretty heavy DIYer - always got something coming apart or going back together - and even this little set keeps up. I bought it primarily to replace some lost 1/434; deep sockets, but as it turns out the ratchet is very nice and it's the one I find myself using most frequently. For the price, I couldn't be happier.

The case is junk, but the tools are great. If you don't need the carry case, it is 5 stars.

really good set

Fantastic 1/434; drive ratchet and socket set. Every GearWrench product I have owned has been good quality but the superb functionality of their tools is where they shine. The ratchet has good, narrow profile that allows for good access to awkwardly placed fasteners. The ratchet mechanism needs very little movement to ratchet and took very little resistance from the fastener to engage the ratcheting action. I didn't really need the deep well sockets and would've liked a smaller kit but the smaller ones I saw did not have all the socket sizes I required.

Excellent quality for the price

A handy tool that seems to be well made. The 1/434; drive size has become more useful than other drive sizes. The kit was well supplied and works well. The sockets each have their own place. The sockets are marked well and the case is marked with the socket size but with black on black numbers. The case and the latches are hinged in stead of folded plastic and should be more durable. The case is sized a bit big and when it is carried some of the sockets come out of their location in the case. Overall I am very pleased.

This is a great set. We use this on a daily basis. Seems to be very high quality. I like the fine tooth ratchet. Glad I bought this set!

Update: I went ahead and ordered a 13mm shallow (Gearwrench 80207) off of eBay. It fits perfectly in the box. I was also able to squeeze a 1/4 swivel adapter. With those two additional items (and the mid length extension) I already added the kit is perfect. The only one that is a tight fit is the swivel. Honestly if the price is right and you want a small set for your road trip bag and you don't mind an extra 5 or so for a single socket it's a great set. ORIGINAL REVIEW: I would easily give this set 5 stars except half the time when I go to use it I have to say ARGGHHH! why would they not include the 13mm shallow. In case you don't pay close attention while the deep goes all the way to 14 without skips, the shallow only goes to 12mm without skips. Every time I pick up this set and realize i need a 13mm I have to hope that I have enough space or else I will have to grab a wrench instead. I would gladly give up one or 2 of the smaller sockets in either shallow or deep or even the 14mm deep in order to go all the way to 13 in shallow. The sockets themselves are great, and like them better than most any of the others chrome sockets I have (Tekton, Craftsman (old and new, don't bother with the new), Proto, Williams, Crescent, Harbor Freight) and nearly as well as the Snap-on. The relieved corners on the inside, dished opening, the tapered body on the smaller ones, the knurled lines on the metric and big easy to read sizes. The sockets fit great on all my ratchets and extensions and I even like the fact that the opening on the deep sockets is only broached part way in so you can use them to spin the nut on even when you are using a deep socket. I thought that might get annoying but I rarely if ever have a nut part way down a fastener where I want it to float in the middle of the socket, that is mostly just what happens with other sockets. The bolt passes right through the rest of the hollow center so it works like you would expect it to. I picked up this set for the box since I wanted to have both shallow and deep metric sockets in my truck and I have a 1/2 set I keep in my cordless impact bag that picks up on the big end. The box is super small for all the sockets it holds and fits in my tool bag perfectly. The spinner handle is one of the better ones I have that don't have a pass through extension at the end of the handle (although if gearwrench were to adopt that they could almost eliminate the long extension) it has great grip and feels good in the hand. I love the feel on the extensions they include but find a need for a mid sized extension often so I put a Tekton extension in the box it sits right on top of the chrome shaft of the spinner handle. I knew going in that the ratchet included is the smaller 80 tooth instead of the long one shown and I don't mind that at all it feels great, its probably the best of the small 1/4 ratchets I have. It feels sturdy and its super low profile and works great in small places. The extra space at the end of the handle in the box seems a waste, perhaps they could re-work the box to include, say, a 13mm shallow. If I can pick one up I will add one and just store it in the box, it actually would fit at the end of the handle slot, it just irks me enough that I always find a need for a 13mm that I can't give the set 5 stars. Almost, but not quite.

Works great. Ratchet has a very smooth feel. Use almost daily and have not broke any.
