Dayton Audio SSMB24 24" Speaker Stand Pair Square Steel Base

I jumped on the ELAC B6 bandwagon recently (look 'em up) and realized pretty quick that good stands aren't as cheap (relatively speaking) as good speakers are these days. I paid $180 for the speakers (which are easily worth twice that amount, maybe more) so I figured I'd spend half that much ($90) on stands. First I tried 2434; steel stands from a company called 34;Vivo34; that turned out to be a waste of $45 (read my review over on that page). For just ten more dollars, I could've had these beauties. So yeah, I ended up spending about $100 on stands for a $180 pair (normally $280) of speakers. The Vivos I will keep and use for rear speakers in an HT set up but they are totally unusable in a two-channel system. Here's why the Daytons are vastly superior and the better bargain: they don't move. At all. Pro Tip: Fill the hollow steel pillars with 34;play sand34; from your hardware/garden supply store (use a funnel and tape up the holes when you're done) and these become a rock solid platform for any speaker up to about 30 lbs. They don't tip, rock, resonate, or wobble. Why is this important? Because stands that flop around when the music's playing rob a listener of vital spatial and timing cues and everything sounds 34;smeared34; and watery as a result. These cues allow your brain to form an acoustic 34;image34; (aka 34;soundstage34;) that is the whole reason we listen to music in stereo (stereo is Greek for 34;solid34; remember). Lock your speakers down and keep them fixed in space and only the cues such as delay, reverb, and ambience recorded in the music will be presented in the listening space. Small bookshelf speakers are popular among audiophiles because they tend to 34;image34; better than larger designs, but ONLY if you use appropriate stands. Solid, non-moving stands of the correct height are absolutely essential to getting the most out of your small bookshelf speakers. I hereby pronounce the Dayton Audio SSMB24 the best stand for small bookshelf speakers (like the ELAC B6) that you can buy for under $100. Heck, they might be the best for under $200. You'd have to buy Sound Anchors or Target stands to beat these and for those you will pay dearly. So, how much dough do you have anyways?

Solid stands they should know in this hobby that people are going to tweak whatever you sell them I wish the holes in the main tube to hide the speaker wires were not there it made it a little more difficult to fill with sand I just taped over them with black gorilla tape Blends in just fine after filling them with sand I get no ring and they are really solid stands I like the integrated spikes I think these are the best stands you can get for the money with the All Steel construction but they do ring so keep that in mind given my experience level I already knew this was going to happen no big deal easy fix just filled them with sand and use the rubber washers in between the plates to seal it I think these are the best things you can get for the money I know stands can be very expensive but I like the way they're built build quality isn't the best in the world but I'm very happy with them they hold my Dynaudio DM 2/8 which is an 8-inch woofer 2-way bookshelf speaker of decent size and these are totally up to the task

I needed a pair of stands for my NHT SB3's and definitely wanted metal stands, problem is, they cost a lot. I stumbled onto these and decided to order them. My first order arrived with an open box, missing one bottom plate, Josh in customer service took care of the issue and I finally had a second unit 5 days later. The stands are very study, though the alignment of the center threads could use some work. I filled the weld joints on both ends of every tube with hot glue then filled all of them with sand. I plugged the wiring holes on the backs of the larger tube with some carbon fiber vinyl I had laying around. It was very tedious since and took some time, practically using up roughly 30lbs of sand but it was so worth it. I modify speaker crossovers and both my NHTs were upgraded to Polypropylene caps. The most immediate thing I noticed I fired them up set on the stands was definitely better performance all around. The bass solidified, overall focus became evident, sound staging got really spooky playing Jazz tracks, needless to say, I am very happy! I wouldn't call them spike, but cones, included for carpet placement. The stands were so heavy sand-filled that they pretty much dug in with all that weight. Overall build, for the price, is a steal! I am not expecting $60 stands to perform like more expensive models..that's being realistic. I think a lot of people posting a review don't understand the price gaps of wood vs. metal stands and metals advantages. I actually hear my speakers the way they were supposed to sound, without stand resonances....makes my crossover mods more accurate since the stands are out the way acoustically. Will be buying another pair for a friend as a gift.
