My kids love water beads but I’m always nervous they’ll put them in their mouths and eat them. First I rinsed these in cool water, low boil for about 10 minutes, rinsed with cool water again. Separate and put in bowls to add food coloring. Rinse food coloring off well. Mix them all together in a bin and add a little water so they don’t stick together once it’s time to play. They last for a few days, just use fresh water and store in a container in the fridge. I don’t let my kids eat the ones we play with but if they did it wouldn’t be a problem like with the real water beads- those can cause serious problems- bowel obstruction, choking, ect. These are small enough that I’m not concerned about the kids choking on these either. The food dye eventually comes off and on their hands but I have towels nearby so beware of that issue if you use food dye.

These Pearls barely soak in water or milk, if at all. Most recipes call for simply soaking pearls overnight to soften them, however, these took over 24 hours to even begin to soften, if they had at all. There was a lot of water remaining in the bowl, and the pearls were nearly the same size as when they started. They were chewy and unpleasant, and I'm left wondering if this is one of those situations where these tapioca pearls were infused with plastic or other non-edible stuff to add bulk and save costs as they do frequently in China. There are better brands of pearls out there. If these are your last resort, it's better to simply not have tapioca at all.
