Mission: Phoenix Rescue Mission was founded in 1952 to meet the physical and spiritual needs of homeless men, women and children.
Target demographics: men, women, and children in our community struggling with homelessness, addiction, and trauma.
Geographic areas served: The Valley of the Sun
Programs: PRM provides residential and non-residential services designed to provide life-transforming solutions to individuals facing hunger, homelessness, addiction, and trauma. Residential programs are therapeutic communities offering a unique blend of Christian discipleship, clinical behavioral health services, and workforce development. Nonresidential programs include food distribution and homeless outreach services that operate all throughout the Greater Phoenix area. PRM mobilizes the Christian community by offering training programs for residential clients in advanced phases of the program, counseling and social work internships to college students, and impactful volunteer opportunities for members of the community. The ultimate goal of PRM’s programs is to see every life and community be transformed by Christ.
We provide long-term recovery programs at our Transforming Lives Center for men seeking transformation from life-controlling behaviors including substance abuse, unresolved past trauma and other issues. This residential program provides a 12-15 month opportunity for men to address their life-controlling issues, as well as to prepare for reentry into the community. Supportive services include: spiritual counseling and discipleship training; personal and group therapy; vocational readiness, training and job placement services; mentoring from staff, volunteers and peers where appropriate; as well as access to housing, meals, clothing and personal hygiene supplies.
The Changing Lives Center (CLC) provides long-term recovery programs for women and for women with children. Women enter the CLCthrough referrals from program partners, and typically have a history that includes periods of homelessness, substance abuse, domestic violence, sexual trauma and other issues. The CLC offers a 12-18 month residential program for women to address their life-controlling behaviors. Women who do not have custodial care of their children when admitted are also supported in regaining custody as appropriate. Supportive services include: spiritual counseling and discipleship; personal and group therapy; vocational readiness; training and job placement services; mentoring from staff, volunteers and peers; as well as access to housing, meals, clothing and personal hygiene supplies.
The Mission Sharing program distributes food, clothing, water, hygiene items, and household goods to individuals and families, as well as to other agencies serving people in need. The Hope for Hunger food bank in Glendale, Community Markets services distribute perishable and non-perishable food to households facing food insecurity. Community Events are large outreach events designed to provide basic goods to low-income families. Case managers work with Mission Sharing participants to achieve short and long-term goals by connecting them to other services in the community and enrolling them in PRM’s Vocational Development program. Street Outreach is a mobile outreach program that provides services to people experiencing homelessness across the Valley. The Outreach & Navigation team is staffed with case managers who help set case plans with participants, connect them to resources, and follow up consistently to keep them on track to reach their goals. The primary objectives of the outreach program are to meet basic needs with water and hygiene kits and ultimately place individuals into a PRM residential program, another residential option better suited to their needs, or in permanent housing with appropriate supportive services.
