The gear ratio was improved from the original 12:1 ratio to 15:1 to offer more tuning stability.There are some minor construction improvements over the original production from the 50\'s and 60\'s including: a slightly heavier button shaft to avoid the occasional impact bending the button shaft easily, nylon washers used internally to maintain appropriate tension without metal to metal contact which results in particles in lubricant within the housing and a taller internal ring gear for better gear mesh and contact and finally a tension washer under the string post to reduce tolerances and keep tension on the post itself.
