My amplifier came with three 12AX7's from unknown Chinese manufacturer in the pre-amp section. I thought it sounded great. When they needed replacing I ordered the JJ's based on reviews and because they looked like the best mix of quality and price. What a fantastic upgrade. My amp went from great to fantastic. It now produces sounds equal to those I hear in the very best demos on the internet. Will they do that for every amp? I don't know; amps and tubes are often a shot in the dark, but these tubes work for my amp. I play mostly lead blues and was looking for something to provide classic blues overdrive sound. I can now play without any pedals though I still use them sometimes.

After using this tube in all of my guitar amps (12) both vintage (1954) and brand spanking new I can say with great confidence that this is a solid, great sounding and durable tube. I have a bevy of new and New Old Stock tubes here to listen to and the JJ 12AX7-S stands up there with the finest available. I have serviced tube amplifiers for 35 years and I also build my own. All of my custom built amps go out to the customers with these tubes in their preamp and phase inverter positions.

Since the early 90's I used GT, Sovtek, EH, Ruby and a few others, but these are so much less expensive, that I have switched to them. The four I purchased on this order tested off the meter range on my tube tester that tests at full power. They are reasonably quiet but not as quiet as the EH and Sovtek premium versions they offer. For hi-fi gear I will stick to those, but for guitars and bass, these are great and seem to hold up fine.
