Mission: To preserve and help people use the documents of forest history. The Forest History Society identifies, collects, interprets, and disseminates historical information on the relationship of humans and forests, contributing to informed natural resource decision-making.
Results: After a successful, $7.11M capital campaign and new building opening, the FHS is working on the digitization of historic documents and photographs and digital exhibits enabling us to reach more people around the world. Our educational webinar series launched in 2020 has now reached over 6,000 attendees. Our near future plans include expanding our archival collection program and identifying collections at risk including materials where a paucity exists at FHS or elsewhere including urban forests, mid-sized operations and marginalized groups such as African Americans, Native Americans and other under-represented groups. Other plans include: Ensuring effective, transparent governance of FHS; strengthening our financial resources; expanding programming and publications and strengthening our visibility and engagement with a variety of communities and allied partners.
