These sound great for the size, actually produce a fair amount of bass and decent highs.

I bought a pair of these (from Parts Express directly) for a portable speaker project about 2 months ago. My primary design goals were to find the best compromise between audio performance and, naturally, portability. Price, as always, was a factor, too. I put them in a 10 (W) x 6 (H) x 8 (D) box incorporating both a 1 x 3-inch front-firing port and also a 1.75 x 2-inch down-firing port. They took a little time to fully break them in (the surround is quite stiff, so it takes a bit), but they were pretty awesome right from the start. To sum up, it you want to build a speaker than is truly portable without sacrificing Hi-Fi sound, this is the choice. The mids and highs are excellent - as expected - but the bass note is what stands out the most. It is rich and full, completely lacking the 34;tinny34; sound of a typical portable speaker. (FYI - total project cost is about $150. That includes bluetooth amp board, rechargeable battery pack, LED's, controls, handle, etc., etc...)
