My mom's memory care facility recommended these cups for her when she could no longer hold and use a conventional, open-topped drinking cup. I was worried because the reviews are so mixed, but these cups have been wonderful for my mother. They are on the smaller side, which I initially thought was a problem because I want my mom to drink lots of water to stay hydrated. What I learned was that if they were any bigger, she wouldn't be able to hold them independently. These are just the right size for her hands, and they don't get too heavy when filled with liquid - genius! We have had no leaks and no spills, even when dropped. The only sort of problem I noticed is that the staff at her facility always puts the spill proof cap on the vent hole in the lid, which means that there's no way for her drink to come out of the straw. I decided just to cut those caps off all of her cups because spill-proof is not what we need, we just need her to drink. If you are buying these for someone in a facility where things need to be labeled with their names, sharpie doesn't stay on these cups very long. I had to get a label maker and put her name on the lid and cup that way.
