Mission: Voice for Adoption advocates, educates and collaborates to advance federal policies that promote and sustain permanence for children and youth in foster care.
Results: VFA has had several legislative wins, such as the Fostering Connections to Success and Increased Adoptions Act of 2008, Adoption Tax Credit Refundability 2010,2014 Preventing Sex Trafficking, 2018 Family First Prevention Services Act. Hundreds of families have participated in the Adoptive Family Portrait Project. VFA has close to a hundred board, organizational, and individual members.
Programs: Voice for Adoption (VFA) coordinates communication and dissemination of information within the adoption field. VFA has succeeded in getting organizations and individuals to work together to inform the public, the media, and decision-makers about children's plight in foster care waiting for adoption. VFA writes and distributes a weekly e-mail newsletter that goes out to more than 1,000 recipients to alert them about current issues, legislative initiatives, and policy and practice within the adoption and child welfare communities, especially related to special needs adoption efforts. VFA now has over 2,500 followers on social media, including families, front-line workers, and policymakers. Public awareness - VFA conducted an annual public awareness event featuring photos and stories of 85 families that have adopted children from foster care in offices of congress members. VFA also presented awards for adoption across boundaries and continuing services to adoptive families.
