For complicated reasons, shunt type Ethernet arrestors inside a home are generally bad. You want an isolator like the EverStar or Tripp Lite which are certified to EN 60601 and add 4kV of isolation. The complicated version is shunt types can convert harmless common mode surges into harmful differential mode surges. A surge which might not have crossed the Ethernet barrier before shunting might after. Stick to isolators.

This simple device can protect your CAT6 ethernet cable from lightning strikes. A full house surge protector protects your appliances, but not your CAT6 cables!

I noticed no impact on performance. My router still thinks there's a 2.5G connection to the modem. It's fast enough for an 800/20 Comcast connection, not sure about the 1G plans.

I would of preferred that it Fried itself, and saved everything Downstream. Which it DID NOT DO Everything that was downstream of this device, was killed by a Lightning Strike, Switch and 4 POE Camera's on POE Switch!!!!!!!!!!! When Switch Fried, it did save, another POE Switch, and The Router, and the other 4 cameras on this other POE Switch.

I used a 3 prong plug, with only the ground remaining, to plug into a wall socket so I could protect a gigabyte switch. Many cheaper items were only megabyte capable. This is doing the job, as far as throughput. Time will tell on lightning protection.

I put a lot of faith in this product. My house was hit by lightning two weeks ago. The surge came in through the phone company cabling into my router which routed the surge to a PC, laser printer, another router and two switches. I never ever expected that to happen. I counted this as a wake up call so I also installed a Square D whole house electrical surge protector in my main electrical panel.

I opened one of these up to review the design (I'm an EE). This device has just GDTs. GDTs take quite a high voltage to ionize over - by the time they do an Ethernet interface and whatever is attached to it will be toast. A proper circuit would have TVS diodes clamping until the GDTs can ionize over. I don't need to even have my equipment zapped to know these won't do a thing. I have similar devices from other manufacturers and have put them under various tests. Only those with the ability to clamp at lower voltages will actually provide any protection.
