Mission: Our goal is to broaden access to community-based recovery support services for youth (ages 15-26) and families struggling with substance use disorder. Peer recovery support services, delivered by peer recovery coaches involves giving and receiving non-clinical assistance to support long-term recovery from substance use disorders. A peer recovery coach brings the lived experience of recovery, combined with training and supervision, to assist others in initiating and maintaining recovery, helping to enhance the quality of personal and family life in long-term recovery (White, 2009). Peer recovery support services can support or be an alternative to clinical treatment for substance use disorders. TCC utilizes a peer-oriented social model program which is applied to all three of TCC’s participant populations: youth ages 15-18; young adults ages 19-26; and, family members of a loved one battling substance misuse or with a substance use disorder. Program participants learn what it takes to recover through the guidance of recovery coaches. In addition to one-on-one recovery coaching, TCC facilitates peer-led mutual aid support groups for each participant population. TCC also conducts and hosts various trainings, engages in community education and outreach, serves as recovery advocates, and offers a wide variety of pro-social recreational activities across TCC’s four-acre campus. Activities include ping-pong, pool, darts, basketball on the full-length court, other forms of exercise, mindfulness and meditation practices, video and board games, and movie showings.
