Causes: Homeless & Housing

Mission: Since 2003, Step One Halfway House has been committed to walking alongside people who lost so much of who they were and the ability to achieve their life goals and dreams due to addiction and who desperately want and need help to recover. Step One’s mission is to introduce a 12-Step program to a newly sober individual in a clean, safe environment (the agency also helps those who are not yet sober; please see below). Step One is unique in that all staff members are recovered addicts and alcoholics and have dealt with all the physical, mental and emotional impacts of addiction and recovery.

Results: Over the past year, Step One assisted 477 men through all its programs. Of these, 95 graduated from the program, 70 maintained their sobriety for six months or more, 59 gained job skills and found employment, and 57 maintained their employment for at least six months. Step One’s anticipated outcomes over the next year include: Serving at least 700 people. Engaging at least 2,000 people in the 90-day program. Having at least 175 people graduated from the program. Having at least 75% of clients served, we gain the skills and confidence to serve as a sponsor to other clients. Ensuring that at least 95% of clients receive all the public assistance benefits for which they are qualified. Having at least 120 people complete the program and graduate. Having at least 120 people become employed. Determining that at least 100 of those who become employed remained employed six months after completing the program.
