Sonic Barrier's VE-1 damping material offers twice the damping and half the weight of asphalt based damping sheets.

The Sonic Barrier VE-1 was formulated for maximum damping efficiency over a broad frequency and temperature range. It is made of a mineral-filled visco-elastic polymer that transforms vibrational energy into thermal energy (low level heat). It provides twice the damping of asphalt based product, without the weight and odor. The VE-1 has a leather grain finish and is cosmetically pleasing, so it can be used on front speaker baffles and other applications that are visible to the eye.
The flexible nature of the VE-1 damping sheets enables it to mold and conform to irregular surfaces. It can be cut easily using a standard razor knife or scissors. The pressure sensitive adhesive makes peel and stick installations easy and will adhere to most surfaces including metal, wood, and fiberglass. Excellent flame resistance, can handle continuous temperatures up to 250° F and meets UL94V-O. Thickness: .050". Sold in 10" x 13" sheets.

Im a teacher who was annoyed by constant interuptions on the intercom system. I put this over the speaker. oh man what a difference. I can teach now. good product. lol.

It's ADHESIVE sheets of VINYL sound dampening material. I used it inside the door panels on the metal of my 2005 Mini Cooper S, it GREATLY reduced road noise. I replaced the speakers at the same I installed the sound dampening, so I cannot comment on whether it improved the sound of the speakers. I also trimmed sheets of adhesive felt and put pieces in the door to reduce rattle. I used about four or five sheets to cover both interior doors. It's been in the door for several months, adhesive is still going strong. I have no idea what the other reviewers were expecting, or perhaps the product has changed in the intervening years.
