Finished the 740 mile Northern Forest Canoe this summer using the Nemo Extremo paddle cart. The trail is not all paddling with a good chunk of it on road shoulders and portages ranging from gravel paths to rough, rocky, root covered terrain as well as deep mud. This cart did its job over the roughly 150 miles of portages. My two fellow thru paddlers had small diameter wheeled carts from other makers, and both failed over the course of the trip, with one starting to fail on the first day. They each got a backup cart with 15 inch solid rubber bicycle-style wheels, and had an easier time pulling than me but the extremo's wide wheels and low center of gravity worked better in mud and sand and over rocks and roots. At one point, we carried one of the boats double-stacked on my boat for about 4 miles of road shoulder after a complete failure of a cart. Here are the positives: It takes the weight (about 150 pounds of boat and gear) without any complaints, it's lightweight compared to other units, the strap system worked mostly fine for holding the boat on the cart (see cons), it's compact, although I never took the wheels off because it fit upside down behind my seat and and I could stow a bag between the wheels, and lastly it made the trip intact. Here are the cons: the blasted kickstand would not stay up and dragged on rocks, roots and in mud (see picture), the strap system was not long enough to run the straps through the seat structure so that over the course of a portage over rocks or roots or mud, the cart would work its way off the back of the canoe. As for the wheels, when portaging over gravel, the tires would pick up sharp stones that would embed themselves in the tires and they would work their way through to the plastic wheel and make an annoying squeak, I lost count of how many times I picked stones out of them. My last con is one of the tires began to delaminate about three quarters of the way into the trip. A couple wraps of duct tape kept it from coming off completely. That's my take. It's a really good cart at a fair price. Not unbreakable, but very durable. I'd buy it again. Thanks for reading and happy paddling.

I needed a way to move 14.5' canoe from parking area to the water. Once you use it a few times you will develop a system. Finding the balance point of you boat and getting carrier centered from left to right is critical for longer portages. Make sure you strap it down securely so it doesn't move in transit. It comes with two long straps. I run the straps through carrier and up the side of the canoe and around the thwarts to secure. This keeps the carrier centered under the boat.Wheels are large enough to get through grass, dirt, light mud and sand. You will want to attach short rope to front or back of canoe to make it easier to pull. A handle tied to rope is a good idea for longer portages.

I use this for portaging my fully loaded 17 foot kayak. Most important thing is to strap it tightly when using it.It does disassemble and fit in my kayak's hatch, but just barely; I strap it on top of the kayak. It's very lightweight considering the load it can handle.

After 2-3 dunkings in salt water ar the boat ramp, a spring clip used to join sections together has rusted and broken rendering the cart useless.

I have two canoes that are in the 80 pound range, needed a cart to help me move then around without dragging them through the gravel and grass. This is a nice well made cart, I like the wheels and hard tires over the air filled tires. The air filled tires on my past carts would not reliably hold air. The ability to quickly disassemble the cart taking very little space in the canoe is a plus. The cart can easily handle the weight of the canoe and my fishing gear with the 200 pound plus weight capacity.
