After years of struggling with the friction pegs on my Oud, I finally had a light bulb moment. I tried a standard plastic guitar peg winder, which, while a little unwieldy on the Oud pegs, did make it easier to push in and turn them. Duh! What took me so long to try that? Anyway.... I decided to look for an Oud peg winder or Lute peg winder and found this little gem. Some reviewers said it was too narrow or perhaps not long enough to fit on the pegs. I can see why. The pegs on the Oud have inconsistent sized peg heads so this fits halfway on some, all the way on others. In both cases it works just fine for all the pegs. The tool's opening is hand chiseled I am sure and there will likely be variances from piece to piece. I can tell however that if it needed to be widened, it would be pretty easy to accomplish. It doesn't have much leeway, if any, to make it longer however. What a world of difference! It makes tuning the Oud a breeze and much more accurate. Overall I am thoroughly pleased with this little piece of wood!

Slot for pegs is sloppily cut and too small for standard lute pegs. Had to spend a couple afternoons filing it so it was big enough and evened out. Expected better for the price.

I recently started learning to play the lute and the biggest challenge is... tuning. The mechanical nature of the tuning pegs that have to be pulled, turned, and then pushed back into their slots for each of 15 strings has made playing the lute much less enjoyable. This simple little tool has made all kinds of difference. It makes making fine adjustments in pitch as well as pushing the pegs in much easier. My fingers no longer hurt after making the endless string adjustments. I'm still looking for those elusive mechanical pegs, but in the meantime, this lute tuning tool has been a life/finger saver!
