I have extensive experience in tapping. In simply refreshing 12-24 threads in the aluminum cook pot of my Weber grill, the bit broke after usual crank/release w/lube operation, what's supposed to be the exact purpose of HSS bits (i.e. tapping aluminum). At the end, I was able do finish the job with some other cheap Chinese tap bit, only because the "Drill America" at least it broke in such a way it was removable. These bits were a total waste of money!!

Picture shows reduced shaft, which is why I ordered these...of course no useful dimensions provided in the description. 1 1/8 is as far as you're going with these. So yeah, if you need matched threads through tube look elsewhere.

It works well. I needed to cut some threads for some tubing couplers used in a titrator. These worked well.

Needed to tap my bell housing bolts normal tap wouldn't thread deep enough, this one worked better, right tool for the job.

I stripped the threads out of the cast blinker on my bike. I went up a thread size but my pointed tap only put in about 2 threads (a little less actually). I couldn't find a bottom tap in town so I ordered this one. I ran the bottom tap in the blinker and was able to get a couple of more threads. Everything worked out good.

I was replacing plastic casters on metal plant Dollys. The plastic caster had a stud that screwed into the dolly about a quarter of an inch. The replacement casters had a stem that was longer. I need to extend threads in a plant dolly to get a more secure installation. Overall I purchased three of these taps. Great quality. I did use cutting oil and cleaned out the hole before and after. I cleaned the tap after each use. I have twenty of these dollys and replaced four casters on each.
