Causes: Arts & Culture, Opera

Mission: Operadelaware's mission is to enrich the cultural lives of adults, students and families within the mid-atlantic region through meaningful arts education and the production of grand opera and intimate opera concerts, featuring established and emerging talent.

Programs: Over the course of our 2016-2017 season, operadelaware enriched the lives of over 17,000 people through performing or presenting 33 operatic performances, lectures and events throughout delaware and the region. The 2016-2017 season attracted over 700 new patrons, and over 650 patrons from outside a 30 mile radius of wilmington. In addition, our riverfront studios served as home to many delaware arts organizations for their office, rehearsal and performance spaces.

operadelaware's education and outreach programs reached underserved community centers and schools through a multi-pronged approach that provides students with instruction, training, presentations and performance opportunities. The curriculum, repertoire and rehearsal time are closely tailored to the specific needs of each student body. The 2016-2017 season accounted for 8,296 total student interactions through free performance and participation based programs including the warner arts alliance, a year-round program that integrates the arts into the curriculum as a way to reach a variety of learning styles. Other programs include the neighborhood choir after-school program and outreach events geared towards young audiences which introduce children to the power and beauty of the unamplified human voice, while teaching important lessons about reading, writing and music.
