This is a very cost effective way to get small particles and water out of your air tools. I use this when painting for oil-based systems such as rustoleum paint. No more fish-eyes. The filter also lasts a very long time and doesn't need to be changed that often in my experience.

I have installed the filter in my system in the 1/2 inch black iron piping, right after my other filter complex. The existing one has a water separator, another water mist separator and an oil separator that prefilters the air going to the Motor Guard filter. The Motor Guard is built very well, it is easy to open and change the element. From other reviews, I am keeping an eye on the inside of it for corrosion from the moisture. So far there is none. I thought about painting the inside with epoxy or rubber paint before I installed it, but chose not to. I plan on leaving it open just a little to allow it to dry out if I am not going to use my air for an extended period of time. As for the complaint by someone that there was not a mounting bracket, it would be nice for some people that cant build one, but if it is mounted in metal pipe it really does not need one. The unit comes with a total of three elements, one in the housing and two replacement elements. All in all, I like it so far, and I like the fact that it is Made in USA!

Have used these for over 30 years. Mostly for painting. Works best if you change the toilet paper frequently while doing the job. it's the best compared to a regular filter in the air compressor. Would not use it as a full time filter do to the corrosion and toilet paper gets moldy. I plug it inline with the hose only when doing a job. When your done take it off clean it out and leave it open till next time. Never leave toilet paper or the supplied element in it when not being used. Like I said these work great but not for permanent water/dirt filter for your air supply. The supplied elements are good. Take them out and set them some where and let them dry out they will last for years. They are fabric so they will dry rot eventually. Toilet paper works great. They do saturate quickly with water so when painting overtime you stop to refill your paint gun throw another roll in it for best results. Depending on your location you will get a feel how often you need to replace the roll. If you treat this right and don't be lazy it will last a lifetime. For painting there is not anything out there to beat it for the results you will get.

I bought this unit for a plasma cutter with a built in air compressor. This filter is built solid and the air filter cartridge is tightly packed. Needless to say, it seems as though the air pressure from the built-in air compressor was too low for this moisture and particulate filter. There was no air output. This is not a fault of the filter. The filter was probably designed for a much higher air pressure and cfm input. I gave the rating of 4 stars, because I like the filter, simple and looks like it would do a great job. However it did not work for my applictaion.
