Mission: To prevent and cure veteran-specific illnesses and injuries through innovative research and education.
Programs: Supported clinical research studies that improve treatment andcure of health problems prevalent among veteran patients and therelevant general population. Special emphasis is placed onprojects that develop new technology, drug therapies andrehabilitation for the aging population. Support is also providedfor basic science research projects designed to acquire newknowledge leading to improvements in the prevention, diagnosis andtreatment of diseases and disabilities.
supported education and training related activities for the benefit of veterans, their families, staff and the community at large. Included in the program is a dhhs funded project which involves teaching caregivers of veterans and va employees in compassionate care of veterans with dementia. The foundation supported eight life science research seminars entitled : "emblica officinalis (amia) - an anti-angiogenic and anti-carcinogenic agent in ovarian cancer; "clcf1: a cytokine protein with a long name, deorganized structure and diverse biological effects; activity for people with diabetic neuropathy; "limb vs tongue resistance exercise on neuromuscular function in rat modes of aging and als; "exercise is medicine for stroke recovery: linking heart health to brain health; "the topic will be dpp-4 inhibitors and the kidney; "maspin controls epithelial differentiation in development and tumor progression; "current concepts in low back pain".
