no complaints as far as planning thickness and all the bells and whistles for adjustment and operation. had to take away a star because of the dust/debris port. i hope you have an assortment of hose adapters, because none of my shop vac hoses fit the port. it seems there was little to no consideration in the design. when i finally got a hose to fit, it was completely in the way of the board exiting the planer. still a good planer, this would not have been a deal breaker, but just the same it was annoying.

Very pleased with the Dewalt planer. Easy setup! Blade change out looks to be very easy! Looking forward to re-surfacing some older salvaged cedar lumber!

Good planer for the money. Blades are much cheaper than the knives that I have purchased for my Delta planer.

Throw the rest of the planners in the trash. Do yourself a HUGE favor if you want a QUALITY precision planner and get this one. I had bough another brand for about half the price and that is exactly what I got,1/2 the planner. I urge you beg borrow or finance this unit. I promise you will love it from the moment you have to use the 2 wheeler to move it to your shop. It's a beast and the power assist ejection chute for chip capture(exhaust) has really sold me. This is a worthwhile purchase that should last me for the rest of my shop needs.

It took longer to assemble than it worked for. Utter GARBAGE, and a complete waste of money. Just unboxed it TODAY, planed SEVEN BOARDS keeping a close eye on depth gauge and adjustment, did a fairly nice job, then on 7th board, was reading ZERO cutting depth, not touching board, ran through, dropped 1/16th and started board through, board stuck, breaker popped, smoking, and motor seized. Motor fried at a 1/16th inch cut? That is damned poor equipment for a lot of money! NOW it is clear to me why I DO NOT BUY DEWALT! PS: There is ZERO "Customer Service" took 45 minutes for me to get an idiot from India to tell me over the course of 15 minutes there was nothing he could do and to call the "Service Center"......16 calls in 3 days, messages left, ZERO RESPONSE!

My son-in-law wanted his planer back, so I had to buy my own. This works nicely. I like the two-speed feed, although I usually keep it in finish mode. The chips clear the planer well, with a significant blast of air. I can connect my 2 1/2" shopvac to the exhaust port. I've had minimal snipe, and I've used it with many species of wood, such as soft pine, hard maple, sapele, Gabon ebony and more than a dozen others. I have not uograded to an aftermarket helical head. The only problem is that the first feed roller may be uneven. When feeding, there is a tendency for the wood to rotate counterclockwise about the vertical axis.

This thing is a game changer greatly expands my wood working .

Great planer works awsome

A good tool with bad placement of features. The dust exhaust which is criticle on a planer is above the exiting side of the board feed. This should really be on the side of the machine so the hose isnt falling downward into the path of the workpiece. you also cannot fully lift the feed table up for storeage for this same reason. You run into the dust extraction port. Otherwise it works as exppected.

So far, works as intended. Loud.

This thing is awesome, with or without the shelix. It has done so much good work for me, and with the right set up snipe is no issue.

Well worth the cost!

I'm not really surprised that this thing is awesome because everything I read or watched said that it was. However it is great. We do cabinetry and remodels. There have been a couple times that it didn't pull the material through when I expected it to. At this point I'm still thinking it's user error because after fiddling with it- turning it off, lowering it etc. it would go ahead and pull the material through. I keep thinking that I'll upgrade it to the Helix cutter head but it cuts so good as it is- excellent actually. If your budget allows it, whether you need it professionally or for Saturdays projects there's not a better portable, job site planer. I wish there was a portable jointer on the market that stood out for quality like this planer does.

I haven't used it a ton yet, but the snipe (in and out) is really a problem. I tried all the suggestions on YouTube with no luck. I even built a sled and a larger flat bed and I still had to put sacrificial pieces before and after what I was trying to plane. And WOW! Make sure you have some dust collection attached. Holy cow it blows stuff everywhere! The reason I wish I had purchased the 735 instead of the 735X is because I'm now not using the infeed/outfeed trays (because of the snipe) and I'll probably upgrade to a helix head as soon as these blades get dull anyway.

Based on other customer reviews, I assume my unit was a lemon. However there are multiple potential design problems prospective buyers might want to consider. I bought this as a replacement for my old DW733, a manual carriage lock model that had served me well for many years but was beginning to wear out. Having heard positive reviews about the automatic carriage lock on the DW735X, I was looking forward to ending the unlock/adjust depth/lock routine my old model required for each pass. When the unit arrived I bolted it down to a massive cast iron table and tested it on a short length of pine. The results were impressive. However thing started to literally unravel the moment I used longer boards. I'd already noticed the keyed depth adjustment crank had a lot of play even before planing any wood. Once the motor was on, the crank was unable to stop the cutter head from rising. Each board was at least 1/32" higher at the tail end. Worse, while this was just soft pine and less than 6" wide, the planer would jam every time it got to the thicker end made during the previous pass. There's no discernible way to correct this "automatic" feature. Changing speeds and using a 1/32" pass had no corrective effect. Even though the unit was solidly bolted down, vibration seemed to be a big issue. Both feed tables unscrewed and fell off even after careful tightening. Two plastic snap-in grills that let you see the drive train also fell off by themselves. Changing the planer knives is cumbersome. You have to remove 4 screws to lift the top, then remove 3 long stemmed wing nuts then, in a fairly tight space, rotate and slide out the dust shroud. It seems to me that over time it would be very easy for these small screws to strip or some of the plastic components to break. A final comment is that my old DW733 had an all metal top. After years of sliding boards back over the top it didn't show any signs of wear. On the other hand, the 735 has two rounded metal plates on a plastic top that immediately started wearing down.

I bought this several years ago to replace an almost 20 year old Delta 12" planer (it was a tank!). After 20 minutes of use and no matter how light a cut I would take, the unit would trip. I'd wait for a few minutes so I could reset it, start again and repeat the cycle after a few minutes of use with very light pass. It took it to a repair place to see what they could figure out and got it back about 6 weeks later. They said it was a switch problem and the rollers had some issues so they replaced them (under warrantee). The constant tripping continued and so I decided to replace the circuit breaker. I did so, but the unit still won't work. This is my first Dewalt and I will never buy a Dewalt again. I feel completely ripped off and am still not sure what do do with the unit or what to replace it with. For now, it's back to hand planes like before my first Delta planer.
