Very heavy, it weighs about 12 pounds, but has handles on both ends. Can easily cook four steaks in it.

Got this as a gift for a college grad student. I've used cast iron for decades, and Lodge is the best value for the money, and just overall great. She was worried about seasoning, and even though it comes pre-seasoned, I walked her through adding some seasoning. We discussed how best to clean it and retain the seasoning. An 8 inch pan is just the right size for her to cook for herself or her and a friend.She's already baked cornbread in it, and she says the hamburgers fried in it are awesome.

This is perfect for a camp stove. I don't go camping but I do have to travel for work. Instead of eating horrible fast food while on the road this pan allows me to cook healthier food either in a hotel room that's got a stove top or outside with a camping stove. When I'm gone for weeks eating at a restaurant that many time is not financially feasible/responsible. Lodge cast iron skillets are built to last a lifetime and if properly cared for they will indeed. I find the 6.5 skillet is the sweet spot as far as size goes for cooking for one. Be prepared to season these prior to using if you want a true non-stick coating.

My boyfriend has recently gotten into steaks! And I mean he is OBSESSED. Last Christmas I ordered him some brisket from New York, and I knew I had to step it up this year. He loved the cast iron! To be honest I just looked for the highest rated one, and bought it. I was pleasantly surprised when he told me he loves Lodge and had done his own research. I'm sure if he could he would cook everything in the cast iron!

Cast iron is a great cooking method. I have several pieces but never had a small skillet as I cooked for many and didn't need one. Now it is just me and I have in the past drug out the big skillet to cook with it was not convenient. This little skillet sits on my stove and I cook most things in it. I don't cook tomato based item in any of my cast iron and this skillet is no exception. It cooks evenly and doesn't require high heat. I recommend.

Glad I finally bought a Lodge pan. I had bought an Ozark Trail pan from Walmart. It is not as good as Lodge. Stay away from China made cast iron. This Lodge pan cooks evenly, no flaws, cleans up easy. Love it. Will last you for generations. Will be investing in more Lodge pans. Price was good too.

advantages: great heat distribution non stick very sturdy great heat retention practically indestructible (I suppose... I only had it for a few weeks)disadvantages: more maintenance (than stainless steel, for example) - you can't soak it in water and leave it for hours. heavy (but if has to be or else you wouldn't have the sturdiness and heat retention) takes longer to heat up (again, it has to be otherwise it wouldn't have such great heat retention).so basically... cast iron. Altogether, it's a great pan for a great price and I'm gonna buy some more.
