Programs: The Harlem Educational Activities Fund (HEAF) is an extraordinary college prep and leadership program founded in 1989.HEAF was established in response to a compelling need to close the opportunity gaps in public education confronting underserved minorities in Harlem and Washington Heights. Since that time, we have expanded our reach of the "forgotten middle" to include students attending over 100 public schools across the city. The Harlem Educational Activities Fund creates pathways to college and the professional world for nearly 600 low-income New York City minority youth each year, by providing resources that help them achieve higher education, fulfilling careers, and greater lifetime earnings. The Harlem Educational Actvities Fund Continuum consists of the following programs: • High Expectations, which prepares middle school students for admission to competitive public high schools through rigorousacademic support and electives, including science, arts, and foreign languages. • Summer Quest, our five week summer enrichment program, which combats summer learning loss and prepares students for the next school year. • College Quest, which offers college preparatory services to high school students, including SAT prep, college tours, college and financial aid counseling, and writing workshops. • Onward, which helps students make the transition to college and earn their undergraduate degrees on time. • Our Youth Development & Leadership Academy, which offers opportunities for leadership development and character building. If awarded, we will apply funds towards our college access/success programming costs, including costs for staff, college tours, test administration, and learning supplies.
