Mission: Family Promise's mission is to empower homeless working families to become self-sufficient by providing temporary housing and personalized support, including financial literacy, job training, life skills, transportation, childcare and enrichment for children. We also address hunger through the nightly Walk-In Dinner, which since 1991 has served more than 1.1 million meals to people in need.

Results: Family Promise's vision is a community where every working family has a stable home and the means to create a better life. We offer a holistic approach to empower homeless working families to become self-sufficient. When COVID-19 impacted northern NJ in March of 2020, Family Promise pivoted early during the pandemic to meet the growing and changing needs of low-income families concerning homelessness AND hunger. Since March, we have provided shelter and/or support to 17 families/ 49 individuals via a combination of our New Leaf apartments, in hotels, with rental assistance and post-shelter support. We also expanded our meal program and have to date provided more than 70,000 meals and 8,975 15-pound boxes of fresh produce to people in Bergen County who are experiencing hunger because of COVID-19.
