The Dayton Audio SPA1000 subwoofer amplifier is based on a state-of-the-art Class-G circuit topology that combines the proven high power, high fidelity characteristics of a Class-AB amplifier with a patented tracking down converter power supply to achieve an operating efficiency up to 86%. This "tracking" capability delivers the exact amount of power based on demand instead of constantly keeping it in reserve, so the output stage only draws the amount of power that is required at any given time. Less energy is wasted as heat, and more power is available for the subwoofer driver.
With its enhanced thermal management, the SPA1000 is an upgrade over previous models-making it a nearly bulletproof amplifier choice for today's demanding HT audio and music playback applications.
On the SPA1000, the input and output connections are through your choice of either line level RCA connectors, or a direct LFE input which bypasses the filtering of the amplifier. A stereo input signal is summed to mono and sent to the internal low pass crossover, which is selectable from 50 to 200 Hz; the input gain sensitivity is fully adjustable as well. also included is a phase reverse switch, which helps you to achieve the best acoustical match with the rest of your speakers. Dial in the perfect tone with the single band EQ.
A large surface area heat sink is combined with internal overload, thermal, and short circuit protection so that you can expect years of reliable operation.
1. Low-Level Inputs (Left/Right) - RCA Style jacks that will accept standard line level inputs from a pre-amp level source.
2. LFE Direct Input - RCA Style input jack to bypass the internal filtering for a pure signal to the subwoofer
3. Power Connector Input - Accepts IEC plug for connection to mains
4. Volume (Gain) - This control will match the amplifier's input sensitivity to the output of the pre-amp source.
5. Frequency (Low-pass crossover) - This sets the highest frequency the subwoofer will reproduce and has a range between 50-200Hz with a slope of 18dB/Oct.
6. Power Switch - On, Off and Auto mode. When the "Auto" position is selected, the amp is in "stand by" mode until an input signal of about 10 mil livolts or greater is detected. The amp will go back to standby mode 10-15 minutes after the input signal stops
7. Power LED - When the power switch is moved to the "on" position, the LED will illuminate green, and the amp will be in "On" mode. If the protection circuit detects a short circuit or thermal overload the unit will shut down and the LED will turn red
8. Phase - This two-position (NOR = 0° phase and REV = 180° phase) switch helps to compensate for differences in the acoustical and electrical characteristics between the subwoofer and the main system speakers.
9. Frequency (EQ) - Adjust the center frequency of the single band equalizer
10. Bandwidth (EQ) - Adjusts the quality (Q) of the equalizer band

I bought this to replace/upgrade a failed SPA500 that was 10 years old in a direct to consumer integrated subwoofer. It was a drop in replacement, took me about 10 minutes and most of that was because I chose to use a hand screw driver rather than a drill for half of it. So far it works great, I don't know if I "needed" the upgrade who can say no when it was far cheaper than any new sub alternative. I could possibly fault Dayton for the fact that I have 2 SPA500 that failed, but maybe 10 years is all I can expect from a sub amp? Perhaps they are working too hard due to the wiring arrangement of my subs. They are powering 2 15" dual voice coil drivers in a sealed enclosure. It is hard to say, but I have two of the SPA500 had a failure that resulted in them just humming non-stop (and no, it wasn't due to ground loop) which isn't unheard of...but then what competitor exists remotely close to this price point? Hopefully the SPA1000 last longer than the 500 did, but it was still far cheaper than buying new subwoofers. I am sure the bass will be more intense with 2000W total driving my 4 15" subs when I install the 2nd amp in a week.

I have purchased the dayton 100 watt plate amp and the 250 watt plate amp both are outstanding have been ruining sub woofers with them for years now that being said this 1000 watt plate amp is nothing like the other plate amps of this same series I've purchased two of these 1000 watt amps expecting the same quality and have been seriously let down neither one of them have even 15 minutes of use brand new trash

So I purchased this to replace my Klispch 115 SWR amplifier after it died. The difference is night and day as far as features, build quality, and power goes. I doubt the Klispch stuff makes more than 250w with lightening as a power supply. This SPA 1000 is definately worth the price at about .50 per watt. Not too mention the clipping protection, great EQ, and AB class with a massive Xformer.I actually threw the Klipsch woofers in the trash where they belong and installed Sundown subs. The house is now powered with 3 of these amps on Sundowns in Klipsch enclosures. What a difference!

Very clean sound, with no clipping or distortion. The on-board equalizer eliminated my 15 Cerwin-Vega subwoofer enclosure's reverberation excellently. It cut only a very narrow frequency band to cancel out the excessive cabinet vibration.I thought a 1,000 Watt peak amp would be louder, but this amplifier subwoofer combo still significantly outperform both of my 15 3-way C-V floor-standing speakers, so I guess I should be content. The three-some sound fabulous together. Definately a strong 4 stars for this Dayton plate amp.

Used one of these 1000w amps with two 12 Polk Dxi subwoofers for a dyi home theater subwoofer.Pros : I really like the subwoofer controls and eq although I ended up using the LFE input which bypasses all controls except the gain. Very well built with a beefy transformer. Auto power on sensing seems to work well so far.Cons : Nasty thump when powering on(not when auto sensing though). Would be better if a 12v trigger option was offered.
