Mission: The mission of David's House is to provide a home-away-from-home and support for families of children receiving treatment through Children's Hospital at Dartmouth-Hithcock Medical Center.

Results: 2011 marks our 25th anniversary, and this year we served our 11,000th family.

Target demographics: Although most of the families who stay with us reside in New Hampshire and Vermont, we have had families from a total of 42 states and 23 countries visit at least once.

Direct beneficiaries per year: Close to 100 unique families utilize the house every year.

Programs: Since it opened in 1986, David's House has been a home-away-from-home for over 11,000 families with children being treated at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center. About 67% are from New Hampshire, about 20% from Vermont, and the rest are from 36 states and 15 countries. David's House has served families from as far away as Russia, Bolivia, and Indonesia. The average length of stay is four nights. The children whose families stay here are treated for everything from premature birth and cancer to cystic fibrosis and sports injuries. David's House helps these families stay close to their children during a critical time of need.
David's House is fully handicapped accesible. It has 15 comfortable bedrooms, eight bathrooms, a good supply of books and toys, and plenty of indoor and outdoor play space.
Two country kitchens enable guests to store and prepare their own food. Breakfast foods are provided, and community groups cook family-style suppers for guests several nights each month.
David's House has four five-time and two part-time staff, two resident managers and over 200 volunteers who help by being house assistants, serving on committees, and working on special events and other projects.
David's House has a close working relationship with Children's Hospital at Dartmouth and Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, but it is independently funded. The suggested nightly donation is $20 per family per night, but no family is turned away due to inability to pay. Room revenues cover only about 10% of expenses. Gifts from individuals, businesses, and foundations make up the rest. Through this generous support we are able to continue to keep David's dream alive by bring his friends in treatement at the hospital, home to his house.
