Mission: Danforth art actively engages its communities in an intimate environment to experience, create, and celebrate art through exhibitions, educational programs, and studio art classes.
Programs: Art school - danforth art school offers nearly 400 studio art classes and workshops annually in a variety of media. Classes range from workshops and short classes that provide opportunities to explore or experiment with art-making to semester long opportunities that encourage the development and refinement of skills and techniques. Classes are offered at all levels from beginner to advanced, for all ages from preschoolers through adults, and in a variety of traditional media- drawing, painting, ceramics, printmaking, and sculpture- to modern media. The art school also offers professional development workshops for teachers with credit available through framingham state university. Many of the faculty are practicing artists and have advanced degrees. The studio art school, which shares the current facility with the museum, encourages teachers and students to use the museum galleries and exhibitions for study, looking and inspiration. Need-based financial aid is offered.
membership services - through its membership program, danforth art offers members and other visitors the opportunity to enhance their museum experience by taking advantage of artists talks and demonstrations, curator led discussions, and early notice of special events. Discounts are also offered to members on art classes, purchases in the gift shop, and ticketed events.
exhibitions and collections care - danforth art museum's collection consists of 3,500 works of art in a variety of media. The collections has works from the 19th century through present day and strong holdings from the school of boston expressionism and a special collection of the works of meta vaux warrick fuller, an african- american sculpture and long-time framingham resident. Danforth art is dedicated to showing the very best examples of contemporary art by both emerging and established artists through a series of temporary exhibitions, including its celebrated danforth art annual and the new england photography biennial. Through its exhibition program, danforth art museum provides increasing interpretive and response spaces within the exhibitions offering fuller academic and aesthetic context, offer multiple entry points, and attract wider audiences.
