Causes: Environment, Natural Resources Conservation & Protection

Mission: Conservation colorado is a grassroots statewide organization working to protect colorado's air, land, water, and people. Our longevity as an organization has provided years of experience educating, mobilizing, and working in partnership with our members. Along with conservation group partners and diverse allies, we create the broad support that provides cover for state and federal decision makers to support protective and proactive conservation policies. This connects to our work developing new leaders, especially young voters and Latinos, who care about protecting Colorado’s natural heritage and quality of life.

Results: Recent accomplishments for the organization have included securing air quality rules that set a model for the nation to significantly reduce gasfield emissions of methane, a potent greenhouse gas, along with other pollutants known to harm human health; launching Protégete, a program that aims to build a more powerful voice for Latino communities and leaders in the fight against climate change and promote a healthy future for all Colorado residents; ensuring that 36 wilderness areas and close to 4 million acres of Colorado lands will stay forever wild, from the Weminuche and the Flat Tops to Browns Canyon and Hermosa Creek; setting a statewide renewable energy standard by citizens’ ballot measure, then increasing it to 30 percent and making it one of the strongest in the country; and passing more than 150 conservation bills at the state legislature in the past eight years alone on a host of environmental issues ranging from water efficiency to air quality to energy efficiency to transit.
