Even though its metal, item is very flimsy and hard to control.

First, it is substantial with engraved aluminum arms, brass and stainless steel fixtures, instructions are helpful. As another reviewer noted it has a tendency to get sloppy which reduces accuracy. However I took an easier approach to make it work better: I went to Lowes got some 8-32 6-32 knurled brass thumb nuts, some 68 nylon washers, slightly longer 6-32 stainless steel bolts, also some 8 brass washers. By putting the nylon washers in between the aluminum bars, reduced friction, so I put brass washers on either side, with the extra nut to lock the screws at a tight enough setting for accuracy, yet movable, maintaining parallel architecture (reduces twisting) it is now easier to use accurately. Mostly the joints have to be tight enough to eliminate sloppiness yet free enough to move. I think total additional cost about $5, more or less, enjoy! You will have to drill out the holes in the center for the 6 bolts, the original ones were 4-40, kind of hard to find so that is why the modifications are necessary, still a great machine.

I do like that it is made out of metal. Did watch a video how to use and with a little practice work very well, just keep check on the thumb nuts keeping them snug.
