It's 'OK'... There's about 5' more of the size-16 cord in the reel than it can easily accommodate, so it's a bit of a chore to get it wound back up completely, even if you spool it all out, first. Also, the lamp holder/handle is VERY lightly-made, and I suspect won't take much abuse. Still, for the price, it's a good retractable for the everyday HOME shop.

I have a much more expensive reel for regular extension cord but I've been using this on a much more regular basis. I put an LED bulb in there and it's really nice because it doesn't heat up like a regular bulb. The retraction can take a few times to get it back in place but once you get the hang of it, it gets better. I really find this to be useful, even more than I thought it would be. Only been using for a few months, and I'm sure there are more expensive units that could be used for a dedicated light but for the price this is really great.

This unit is better quality than I expected for the price I paid. I put a cool-running LED bulb in it so the metal housing doesn't burn me when working in a car and the extra outlet on the handle is very convenient. The reel retracts nicely and has length enough for a 2-3 car garage with tall ceilings. I would definitely recommend this product!
