This Fault Locator is AWESOME!!!However, it is not a cable locator!!! This ia a GROUND FAULT locator!!! NOT a cable locator!!!Use your cable locator to locate and mark the cable location, then connect this and follow the cable until it indicates a GROUND FAULT....This will only find a GROUND FAULT!!!! It is awesome for finding bad underground splices and cut cables in irrigation cables that are SHORTED to GROUND....Again, this is a GROUND FAULT locator and it works like a charm!!! It has made me thousands of dollars...

I could not find an electrician willing to look for the underground ground fault on our property - most said that the tool they have is out of service, or is unreliable. One electrician sent someone out to give me a quote on replacing my underground service running from an outdoor panel to the building. Due to the amount of underground utilities to avoid and hand digging required, he quoted $13,000 to run 225' of new wire. (It was an outrageous quote, but anyway...)Before this, I tried:A rented pipe and utility locator - located the buried wires, but not the ground faultA Fluke cable fault finder borrowed from an electric company employee - gave two different results measuring from opposite ends of the wire. This was partly correct, as there turned out to be two faults, but the tool was totally wrong on the location of the faults, which was the critical information I needed. The TEMPO Pulser located two ground faults on the buried USE cable within an inch. For the first, I dug down and immediately located my problem. I cut out the bad section of wire and spliced a new piece in using two repair kits from the electrical supply that came with butt splice connectors and two layers of heat shrink tubing for waterproofing. The second fault would not have been noticeable, but when I examined the location identified by the Tempo Pulser, I found a nick from a shovel in the wire insulation. I covered this with liquid electrical tape and wrapped it carefully with quality electrical tape once it had dried.I have not yet had time to confirm that my problem has been resolved, but this tool definitely did its job by locating both of these faults very quickly without much guesswork required.Of course, you have to be experienced enough with electrical systems to be able to use this tool safely, but it worked great for me!
