This replaced a old Sony speaker phone that finally died. My only complaint is that the speaker part of the speaker phone on the base unit is not very loud. Any ambient noise (like a TV in the background) makes it kind of hard to hear. The speaker phone on the remote handset (very convenient feature!) is great though - nice and loud and a great feature to have. Another great feature is the 'quiet' mode where you can turn off the ringer for a given amount of time, during which the answering machine will automatically pick up any incoming calls. The answering machine is a nice touch, although I am not real crazy about the circular switch to access it, which feels a bit cheap. If the speaker phone was a little better, I'd rate this phone as about perfect for my needs (home office use)... but it still is a great phone for the price and I'd buy it again if I needed another.

unadvertised featuresSwapping receivers is as simple as literally pressing talk on a different receiverSpeakerphone is nice and loud but has a very noticeable switching soundsystem update time/date to base/receivers simultaneously. base will get settings from phone in case of power outageThis version (with the wired handset on the base) will also work during a power outage if you are using POTS (ie old school wired telephone service). It may work with digital (fiber optic) service while on batteries, assuming the digital service has it's own power backup, but the sound may be extremely weakminor annoyances:The menus for things like user phonebook and voice mail are organized poorly and make you skip over things that are rarely usedconclusionOverall good system for small/home office and still usable in power outages

The desk unit and the hand-held sound far better than the oldies we replaced. And, one hopes, the evolutions in security will aid privacy.

Bought phone for a small satellite office. Holy Cow this was so hard toProgram from instructions. We are not technological illiterates, have set up computers, laptops and tablets. If you buy phone, plan on just blinking your way through set up. Instructions did not help us!
