For backup communications or for staying in contact with travlers, it's a darn good strong radio. Took a 2 mile drive away from brother in a hilly part of FL and they worked clear and strong as a bell. It's nice to get what's advertized.

We are two Uniden marine radios. One with DSC and GPS and this one. Both are excellent quality, great build, incredible battery life and are easy to operate without having to refer to the manual. If you are a boat club member and need a radio, these are a great option.

This is my go-to radio for communications on the ocean. I have frequent trips where I need to speak with captains and this radio has a BIG bright screen, grabs frequencies well and FLOATS if I drop it. I've purchased a few and keep coming back to this lovely workhorse!
