With new discoveries being made all the time, it's nice that this 'bible' of teaching kids on the spectrum has been updated with the latest information. It contains statistics and strategies. It's a must for any teacher, since so many kids on the autism spectrum are mainstreamed. For those without any prior experience with this segment of special needs children, it is enlightening and informative.

I'm the mother of a child with ASD. He's high functioning, but his brain still works differently than that of most of his classmates. As a child with ASD he has an IEP, which means I speak with his teacher, speech therapist, youth at risk counsellor, school psychologist, social skills teacher, and vice principal a minimum of three times a year, but in practice four to five. We work together to come up with the best strategies to help him succeed. This book has helped educate me further. I 'enjoyed' it.

I am a special education teacher who is moving from a self-contained autism to an inclusive classroom with a general education teacher. While I had a lot of training in autism, I wanted to know how to teach in the inclusive classroom. I highly recommend this book to gen ed teachers as you are likely encountering a lot of students with autism in the classroom. I am also a parent of a child with autism. He would be Level 1 in support structure, but this book still helps to remind us that all children with autism require some level of support and even when they seem typical, we do not know what their internal struggle is. This book is an easy read for any gen ed teacher or parent who wants to know more about autism or wants to know some tips on how to talk to your teachers at IEP meetings.

I've been a Special Education teacher for years and this book helped me bring to light many of the behaviors I have seen from my students. Extremely valuable in helping educators be more empathetic and effective with students with ASD. In addition, many of the strategies used in the book are helpful to all students!

I got this for my daughter who is studying to become a teacher. She wants to learn everything she can and after reading this said that it's explained so much that she didn't understand about the spectrum. She said it didn't take her long to read and caught her attention right away. It's very informative and perfect to learn about autism and all that you need to know.

I am not a teacher but I am a parent of a young child with autism. That said, I am not the target audience for this book, but have interacted with a number of teachers regrading my son and his education. He is currently in a special ed classroom and not in an inclusive classroom, but a lot of the information and techniques provided can help any teacher or care giver who interacts with children with Autism or Asperger's. This book is packed with info and it is organized and sectioned off very well. You can read through the whole book but you can also find specific areas or issues that you want to focus on. There are recommendations for phone apps which I found very helpful. I also was pleased with the author's explanation of parents of children with Autism and her recommendations for teachers and administrators to be respectful and sensitive to what parents are going through and where they are on their journey. I think this book would definitely be helpful to any teacher who has students with Autism in their classroom.
