seems like a waste for them to include batteries as some idiot will leave the light on and run down the batteries - at least that is why I assume there was dead batteries in the one I bought (yes, I could have checked it before buying but it was last one at the store and I was looking for a 'grabber' primarily)but it grabs and the magnet works so that was all I needed.I admit I see no easy way to protect the batteries before sale and if they put in a paper tab people would pull it to 'test it out' in the store - If they made it 'press and hold' to illuminate everyone would complain - and if they put batteries in a separate bag stapled to the carboard that would become the issue (lost / stolen batteries).So maybe you should buy this from the internet so no one leaves the light on before you buy it lt;g>batteries I pulled out to change are 3 LR44's.

I wish it used AA or at least AAA battery. No reason to have 3 button batteries, LR4 i think. The light could be brighter. I lost a small socket in the engine bay. I tried to use this grabber but couldn't locate the socket. If it was visible and with the reach of the stick, i'm sure i would've have a problem grabbing it. I'd like to see AA or AAA battery in the handle. It doesn't need to be super slim. I'd like stronger light and a slightly stronger magnet.

This worked great to get a sock that was stuck in my vacuum hose. I was about to spend $100 on a new hose but got this instead. My husband and I used everything we could think of to try and get the sock. The plastic curve of the hose too made it very difficult to get anything in the push or grab the sock. Took less then 5mins to grab the sock!! Big win in my book.
