I was able to successfully strip stranded and solid core wire of various sizes with no problems. I have used strippers like this before and what I was mostly concerned about was loosing strands, especially on small wires. It did not accidentally cut one strand in my tests. I have read that romex with an additional clear cover was problematic, but did not have that to test. There is an adjustment screw for something related to the stripping tension maybe and there are no instructions on that, so right now, that is my only negative.

What can I say . . . this is an ingenious tool which does everything it claims to be able to do, and it does it flawlessly. I only wish I would have purchased it years ago.

I was tired of the old strippers that took 3-4 times before you could get it clean. And many times the wire would break in the process. These save a lot of time and effort. Took me a few times to make the adjustments to get the right amount of pressure and didn't have useful instructions so be sure to test it out with some extra wire first to get used to it.

This is really the gold standard for wire strippers. I find myself mostly using it for stripping back romex 12/2 sheaths. If you try to use it with the individual wires you really need to lean where the splice point is because its not obvious. Also, 12/3 is just thick enough that it doesnt do well with it.

Can't believe I never owned a pair of these before now... they are well built, simplify wire stripping, and are comfortable in the hand.If you strip a lot of wire... buy them now!

I love this tool. It does a nice job stripping the wires, so that they are easy to connect - one to another. I am replacing the lights that are inside my inflatables. I have about 15 that need replacing - so this is great. The only negative that I see is that it is having difficulty cutting the wire. There is a handy section on the device - that allows you to cut the wire. It does not work well at all. I had to squeeze the device a number of times - until the point that I was squeezing so hard that the handles crossed, if you know what I mean. Any suggestions out there? I may just use a wire cutter - if I can find one in all of my tools.

This wire stripper is great for taking the thought out of sizing wires. Works great on single and double strand. Has a bit of a hard time stripping 16/3 power cord. Otherwise it really does the trick, and fast.

The manufacture's of this device (IRWIN) would provide their customers with a valued service by including set of instructions with the tool.The small screw, supposedly used to increase/decease pulling power when stripping wires - does screwing this inward tighten the grip or loosen the grip on the wore being stripped? I turned the screw to the right, as far as possible, with little. to no affect.

The Irwin Vise Grip works great and has a solid weighty feel in hand and while cutting. Sometimes itll be slightly loose of a cut but thats most likely caused by cheap cables that are more rubbery in texture. Great buy.
