Mission: Our mission is to foster lifelong connections to the wonders of the natural world. We believe in the benefits of immersing kids in the outdoors from a young age and the lasting impact of positive impressions with nature. To support our mission, we develop and deliver hands-on learning experiences in our garden and nature trail supplementing classroom instruction across science, math, social studies, language and health topics. We also seek ways to draw families to our garden and nature trail through after school programs, hosting scouts and community events.
Results: Our program which maintains a schoolyard garden (vegetable, floral and herbs) and a nature trail serves Loveland’s 1st-4th grade students (~1400 students). We use these spaces to deliver not only school day lessons for classroom teachers, but also offer after school enrichment classes, community events, host scout meetings and summer camp. In 2020 and 2021, during Covid, we continued to produce food in our garden and donated about 2000 lbs of fresh produce to the LIFE Food Pantry. This community gift back continues with students having the chance to harvest and deliver donations to the pantry.
Target demographics: Foster lifelong connectIons to the wonders of the natural world through hands on, outdoor nature education for primary and elementary students
Direct beneficiaries per year: Our community by donating fresh produce grown in our schoolyard garden to Loveland LIFE food pantry. We strive to offer classroom educators over 150 slots on our fall and spring schedules annually, offer after school programs and community events.
