I purchased this because I needed to stake the castle nut on my most recent Aero Precision build. Worked super well and was much easier than anticipated. If you are using this punch for staking a castle nut, just make sure not to put it too close to the edge. I always do a very small pilot dimple and then when I'm happy with the location I slowly worked the hammer and punch on the dimple and voila, it's staked. If you're unsure about how to stake, there are a ton of great tutorials on youtube that I recommend watching.

It worked perfectly but I wish it were fully adjustable.I wish center punch would be able to retract into barrel and then deliver a center punch when prompted.

It works decently, but it has a design flaw that causes it to fail prematurely. This is my third one in 2 years, probably 200 punches each. The striking tip is retained by an e-style external retaining ring rather than a stepped surface like on a quality tool. This ring snaps and the tip falls out. The snap rings this size are tough to find and are prone to failure by design. Spend the $40 it takes to buy a real automatic center punch, or spend $30 on these, then buy a real punch. Your choice.

I bought this to stake the castle nut on my AR builds and it works much better than a manual center punch and hammer. I only wish it had a carbide tip, but it works with no problem at all.

Feels really sturdy. The tip isn't TOO pointed which is good because that can make it hard to make a good center punch.
