I was hoping to connect my MFD directly to the Yamaha hub, turns out you need another cable; a Yamaha pigtail bus wire (as detailed in the instructions, which I would have known had I read the instructions...) available in varying lengths from 1 to 12ft. I was going to blame Garmin for not making this cable female, to plug in directly to the Yamaha hub, but it's Yamaha's fault. Their hubs and accessories are all male connectors, and their extensions are all double female connections, not even my 6y9 screen will connect directly to the hub, it requires one of said pigtail bus wires! This cable is only available in one size, so if the hub is out of reach, and extension would be needed, right? And what if this cable had a female plug to go directly into the hub? Well turns out Yamaha doesn't make a male-female extension (pigtail bus wire) so I guess it's Yamaha's fault and Garmin is just adopting their nonsensical plug and extension standard.... Also as detailed in the instructions, connect to the j1939 port, NOT THE NMEA 2000 port, just because the plug can go into the nmea2k socket doesn't mean that's where it belongs....

Now my Garmin 8612 has a Yamaha page! Be sure to get the pigtail adapter cable as this cable does not plug directly into the Yamaha bus.

This cable provided instant plug-and-play communication from my Yamaha display to my Garmin MFD. However, you also need Yamaha part number 6Y8-82521-01, to adapt it to the Yamaha bus bar. Super easy install, and as soon as I powered up the electronics, the Yammy info was available on the Garmin.
