They work well for whatever you would use calipers for. If you need greater accuracy then bust out the mics.

Some things you know are going to work while purchasing them. This set of dial calipers is one of those tools that in appearances may not be as refined as an expensive Mitutoyo, but works perfectly well, and with continued good service will have its edges worn smooth. Likely just a Chinese standard build as a basis for a dozen different brands, it doesn't even wear the brand name of the machine shop that built it. These dial calipers are made of heavier stainless steel, rugged, and ready to put to use at any time, thus being more reliable than the digital calipers I made the mistake of purchasing from Redfield, and were too often entirely useless because the battery would die quickly. I expect these calipers will continue to provide flawless precision readings for many years.

This caliper is not machinist quality, however sometimes that's not needed. I use one of these with a cutting and engraving laser for setup use. Fast and very accurate way to measure material thickness for proper settings. This is a perfect cost-effective solution.

The dial caliper is not bad overall. If the manufacturers or designers could find a way to make the glass and calibrated paper properly secured to the dial, that would be appreciated.

This item is inaccurate. I measured several headspace gauges and bore erosion gauges, taking multiple measurements from each, and I was always slightly off. I double checked all the same items with different sets of calipers, both dial and digital, and they were all on the money with the exact measurements expected from each item. Considering that all the others I tried were fairly inexpensive (maybe $20 to $50 max), I cannot rate this item above two stars. You can spend a similar amount of money and get something that is more accurate.

I have another one of these I have used for years. I also have a digital one but frankly I don't think you can beat the mechanical style.

Worked fine until they fell three feet onto a concrete floor. If the case had remained closed they would have been fine. So the case gets one star.

A decent dial caliper fills the gap between a micrometer and a vernier scale You NEED this if you ever make anything out of any sort of metal. It is cheap, and this sort doesn't use batteries. Don't waste your money on a digital caliper that will just let you down when you need it. This is a decent one for the price. If you destroy it from carelessness, no biggie, get another one and be more careful next time.

I bought one of these around 15 years ago because I was irritated with the battery versions, even the Mitutoyo I had previously. I use mine mostly for reloading work where accuracy and, especially, repeatability is of absolute importance. The one I bought was branded "Midway" but it is this exact version. I haven't felt the need for anything else since.

I bought this because I hate it when I buy a 50 dollar one and a week later you gotta replace the batteries. This was is very accurate of course you have to count rotations, but its completely accurate... for the apocolyps!

I need to repeat what others have stated - fresh out of the box, the product looks used.I was specifically looking for a non-digital metal caliper for inches for travel. For one-tenth the price of a good shop tool, you can't go wrong with this device. I am giving this 5 stars based on the value you get for the price you spend, as this would certainly not be 5 stars when compared to the more expensive units, but is more than enough for the hobbyist. It is accurate. Sturdy. Easy to read (once you learn how to read it). And the travel box will protect it. A perfect 1/10-the-cost tool.
