Dayton Audio EX32Q2-4 IMS™ Dual Steel Spring Balanced Interchangeable Hardware Mount 32mm Exciter 20W 4 Ohm
Surface exciter technology provides a universal, cost-effective alternative to loudspeakers, allowing for sound reproduction virtually anywhere it is desired. Issues such as weather, space constraints, vandalism or visibility can be avoided or minimized with the use of a sound exciter. Dayton Audio IMS™ Interchangeable Mount exciters may be used in a host of DIY executions to easily add sound to an existing non-audio specific project or create a portable speaker system, the unique mounting system allows you to try out the assortment of exciters offered by Dayton Audio!
The EX32Q2-4 IMS™ from Dayton Audio can turn most rigid, flat surfaces into a speaker. Designed specifically for mounting to vertical surfaces, this exciter uses a dual spring spider to better support the large neodymium motor providing improved linearity. With a 2-layer 32 mm voice coil, this exciter can handle up to 40 watts peak for high output even when attached to thicker surfaces. A neodymium magnet is employed to create maximum magnetic flux around the proprietary voice coil for increased sensitivity when compared to similar-sized exciters. In turn, this reduces power requirements and makes it possible to use very small audio amplifiers, without sacrificing total output.
With Dayton Audio's exclusive IMS™ interchangeable mounting system, you can try out many different configurations, placements, and exciters to find the best combination for your project. Each exciter comes with a threaded mounting pad that can be permanently installed anywhere. Installation is easy, simply remove the pad from the exciter assembly, mount the pad to your project with 2 screws or with the 3M Adhesive, and screw the exciter assembly back onto the pad! The non-destructive nature of the interchangeable mount allows you to A/B different exciters or swap non-functional units out in the field without risking damage to your project or exciters.

Shimmer Tree is an impressive six metre high tree-like sound and light sculpture controlled by the wind. As the listener wanders underneath, the directional sound and changing resonances envelope the listener in an evolving and meditative sound bath that responds to the environment. It has 12 branches and 12 large cymbals suspended above head height. Each cymbal is fitted with a tactile transducer, transforming it into a metallic resonator speaker.
I started with a vibrant 12X24" metal print of fireworks over the Madison, Wis. city skyline - the "Shake the Lake" show over Lake Monona. This is my own photo, in a high-resolution professional print directly on a sheet of polished aluminum with1.5" inset metal frame on the back. I installed a Dayton audio 15w/ch amp and 2 Dayton exciters behind the panel. Power switch, volume control, and aux audio input mounted discreetly on the side.
My new 192 Watt DIY DML panel build (Bertha)! At 20in x 22in each 1/4" thick plexiglass panel is running at 4 ohm's @ 96 Watts, exciters wired in a series-parallel configuration for each panel and powered by a HiFi 100W x 2 (200W) Bluetooth 5 amp with a 24V 10a power supply. A total of 8 Dayton Audio DAEX25FHE-4 Framed High Efficiency 25mm Exciters each 24W 4 Ohm were used for this DML build.
