It is a rock solid, roadworthy DI for connection of the outputs of electronic musical instruments (or other audio sources) to the balanced inputs of mixer consoles and other balanced inputs. It also allows connection of a music source to an instrument amplifier while simultaneously patching it to a mixer. The dPDB excels at impedance matching and improving the sound of any instrument plugged into it. Enclosed in a rugged steel chassis, it is designed and manufactured to the highest standards to provide years of quiet, reliable performance. The dPDB™ features switchable Input Attenuation (0 dB, -20 dB, -40 dB), a 50k Ohm Instrument Input, 50k Ohm Parallel Link jack, a 600 Ohm XLR Output Jack, and a switchable Ground Lift.Specifications: Ground Lift: Switchable Input Attenuation: Switchable (0 dB, -20 dB, -40 dB) Instrument Input: 50k Ohm Output Jack: 600 Ohm XLR Output Jack Parallel Link Jack: 50k Ohm Frequency response: 10 Hz-50 kHz (±0.5 dB @ +4 dBu) Dimensions: 5.75\" x 5\" x 2\".dPDB™ Applications: Electric guitar and bass pick up output signals - The high impedance signal from a guitar or bass guitar pickup is translated by the dPDB™ into a low impedance balanced signal required by mixing consoles. Keyboards and line level signals - The dPDB™ automatically balances and matches the line level outputs of modern electronic keyboards. If you are using a multiple keyboard setup and your keyboards are all plugged into a single instrument amplifier, the dPDB™ can be used to replace individual direct boxes. Simply send the output of the instrument amplifier to the dPDB™ and then to the console (instead of a separate DI box for each keyboard). DJ console output signals - DJ mixers often supply only an unbalanced -10 dB signal. The dPDB™ converts this signal to a balanced line level signal before it reaches the console, while providing a convenient method of connector transition with the capability to run long cables. Speaker level signals - The dPDB\'s ability to accept speaker level inputs from a power amplifier\'s output allows post-amplifier, post eq and effects signals to be fed directly to the console. In this manner, a particular effect or amplifier sound can be sent directly to the mix. Both the outside and inside of this unit look great! Heavy steel case, quality components, only a few hand soldered connections, transformer is securely glued to the circuit board. Nice diagram on top making it very clear how things are connected. Everything including the switches are CLEARLY labeled (in my opinion some aren't or you can't tell which position of the switch(s) engage a particular function). I like how the attenuation switch is reasonably well protected from getting bumped/changed during handling between gigs (some have push button switches that look like they could be easily changed by accident) Tested it and the attenuation switch operates smoothly with no noise or fussiness. Frequency response was measured to be 3 dB down at 5 Hz, almost no loss at 20 Hz; at the high end, less than 1 dB loss at 20 kHz.

Very well constructed! Beefy metal case. Heck of a deal. No noise and I'm a busy musician.

This box did not work for my digital piano, a Casio CGP700, a cousin of the Casio Privia pianos. There was no low end at when connected to my church PA system. It is quite heavy, looks good quality, but it just didn't work, unfortunately. I suspect that my Casio is a very picky keyboard, since the Behringer didn't work either. The only one that I know works is the Whirlwind IMP2.

Use this for live capture of electronic keyboards. Have used this unit in extreme EMI environments, like several hundred feet from a full power FM transmitter. No problems, no increased noise, no noticeable frequency degradation.Very solid steel case and otherwise solid construction. I'll give this one two thumbs up for live use. Best value for your dollar for this type of unit.
