Instructions in the box were for API Nitrite test, -NOT- KH and GH test. Rendering this test unusable to me without instruction pamphlet. WASTE OF MONEY.

I got this for my shrimp tank initially and am setting up my cichlid tank now. I had no idea my water was so hard but I do now thanks to this testing solution.

Super easy to use, and much faster than the nitrate / nitrite / etc. tests.

I saw a lot of 1 star reviews, so the starting color will only develop after you add the first drop to the tube of water, then it will change after just 2-5 drops so don’t add too fast. My complaint is I had to add too many drops to check GH on city water during the drought, it was so hard. Wore out my patience and used up my GH test liquid.

Bought this because I was having a hard time figuring out what was wrong with my fish tank. My fish were slowly dying (one a day almost, 29 gallon tank) and I had tried everything, did daily water changes and saw this online. Glad I bought it as my WELL WATER was hard. Started collecting rainwater for my tanks and also bought a “water softener pillow.” I haven’t lost a fish since!! Easy to do, just count the drops one by one and look at the chart. My drops went from 20 to 12 to 6-8. Also, saw online people put the color changes on the backs so you don’t have to keep reading the instructions. Good tip!

This is my go to test kit for calcium. It is easy to use and the color change is readily discernable. I cant comment on accuracy of the test, but I am able to generate consistent numbers. The reason that I rate this at 4 rather than 5 is because each test requires 10 drops of reagent 1. However, for each test if you have typical levels of calcium in your reef, one would use 20 drops (roughly) of reagent 2. This means that you will consume all of reagent 2 and only about half of reagent 1. All API would need to do is increase the volume of reagent bottle 2 (and charge a little more) to get more tests from the kit.

Super easy to do. 1 drop=17.9 ppm. More accurate than test strips and an absolute must have if you keep sensitive fish or shrimp in your aquariums. Can definitely save their lives or just make them that much better!

Um not sure if it's working right. New tank trying to cycle but never get an ammonia reading. Been 1 month. Used bio starter also. Probably need like a control to make sure test is working like for diabetics.

I've been doing marine/reef tanks over 30 yrs. And reviewing experienced fish Keepers, you can learn a lot. Use of copper for fish parasites is highly effective, but deadly if strict instructions are not met! This copper test is ok for experienced fish/aquariest. But i recommend a more accurate for the beginners and novice hobbiest. And most of all, time and patience must be followed.

I do use APIs master liquid test kit and felt I also needed to test GH and KH too which the master kit didnt have. The tests work fine although it threw me off a bit in that these tests work by counting the number of drops it takes to make the 5ml of water change colors instead of a fixed number of drops and determine the color like the way the master tests do. I really miss the glass test tubes they used to provide. The plastic tubes they now provide can be stained with chemicals over time and the caps get broken off. Usually the plastic tubes are done for long before using all the test liquids. Also the 5ml line on these plastic tubes are hard to see. Of course the good thing is that they dont break as easily as the glass ones did. But at least you get new tubes with new test kits. My city tap water has periods of very hard and sometimes only minorly hard water with a pH changing from 7.4 to 8.0 depending on the season and city's ever changing procedures. Sometimes it can be one way on a Monday and by Friday the tap water can be very different. This kit lets me know when I need to do a bit of chemical doping to bring tap water more to where my tanks should be. The more you know about your water quality, the more you can make plant and fish environments comfotable for them.

I have ghost shrimp and they get sick at the slightest water quality change. I have to test the water after every weekly water change. This kit will last quite a while.
