I can compare this unit to the OWG and the Kensington because I have tried to use both of those Thunderbolt hubs and found this one to be superior. It is compact, works as advertised, and is worth the cost. The OWG has a terrible input connector that doesn't hold the cable. The Kensington is huge and has additional features I did not need.

I use this dock to support dual 4k monitors off an M4 Macbook Pro, along with keyboard/mouse/web cam/usb audio card. This has worked flawlessly for a few months now. I previously used a Plugable dock paired with a Macbook M1 and repeatedly had issues with the computer not recognizing monitors and keyboards without opening and closing the laptop lid multiple times. With this CalDigit one everything just works. No complaints, no issues.

My MBP Max only has Thunderbolt ports. I still use standard USB external drives for backing up huge video files. This multi-port device is fast and easy to use.

Using it with Macbook Pro M3 Max docked in clamshell mode. All I can say is that this thing takes it all - my thunderbolt monitor, multiple 16tb hdds, thunderbolt 4 ssd drives, sdxc and cfexpress card readers, external m.2 drives tb4, and even more usb3.x hubs with more devices connected on them, this thing just works. And it's quite fast when transferring large files like videos from my cameras. I had another one from a different brand and it gets bogged down quick like after a minute or two the file transfer seems to slow down drastically, but this one seems to sustain it for longer and finishes heavy file transfers a lot quicker. So I have stopped using my previous hub. This does some beeping status sounds when I restart my computer, and I don't know what they mean, hopefully not something bad, LOL :)) I didn't read the manual so I don't know anything about that. I have only tried it with one monitor, so I can't say how well it will perform with multiple screens. But so far, I am quite satisfied with it.

I can't test it's actual throughput speed, because I don't have any devices fast enough to run it full out, but it shows in my Mac system report as a T4 hub, and the disks that I have on it go as fast as they are capable of. It also comes with a nice certified T4 cable to connect to the computer. No complaints at all.

It functionally works excellent for my work laptop and iPad Pro M2 12.9”, and has for the last week of using it, however it gets very very very hot. I’m seeing reviews for it not getting hot at all, so I’m not sure if I got a bad one, but it works fine otherwise.

I bought this hub to go with my Caldigit TS4, but it is not as fast as the TS4. The hub is suitable for most USB devices, but when using an M.2 enclosure, the hub bottlenecks and the SSD can not read and write to its full potential.

Review: The CalDigit Thunderbolt 4 Element Hub has been a fantastic addition to my workstation. If you're looking for a reliable, high-speed, and compact hub that handles all your connectivity needs, this is it. Port Selection amp; Flexibility: With 4 USB4/Thunderbolt 4 ports and 4 USB-A 3.2 Gen2 ports, this hub is a productivity powerhouse. I’ve connected multiple devices, including external SSDs, a 4K monitor, and peripherals, without experiencing any slowdowns. The hub supports dual 4K displays or a single 8K display, which is perfect for my video editing setup. Plus, having the ability to daisy-chain additional devices via Thunderbolt is a game-changer. Speed amp; Performance: The data transfer speeds are phenomenal. I transferred large files to my SSDs, and the speeds were consistently high, without any interruptions. It maintains its performance even when multiple devices are connected, which speaks volumes about its quality and efficiency. Design amp; Build Quality: The design is sleek and compact, taking up minimal space on my desk. It feels sturdy, with a solid build that gives confidence in its durability. The Element Hub doesn’t overheat, even after hours of heavy use, which I really appreciate. It’s also small enough to throw in a bag if you need it on the go. Ease of Use: Setup was as easy as plugging it into my laptop. It worked seamlessly with my MacBook Pro without the need for additional drivers. It’s also compatible with both Windows and macOS, so it’s versatile for different setups. The power delivery feature is a big plus, allowing my laptop to stay charged while using the hub. Overall Experience: After using the CalDigit Thunderbolt 4 Element Hub for a few weeks, I can confidently say it’s worth the investment. It offers the perfect combination of speed, connectivity, and convenience. Whether you're a creative professional, remote worker, or just someone looking to expand your laptop’s capabilities, this hub will exceed your expectations. Pro Tip: Make sure you have a compatible Thunderbolt 4 or USB4 port to take full advantage of this hub’s capabilities. Using high-quality cables will also ensure you get the best performance.
