there is a piece of wood on the side that is not marked. The product picture doesn't show it, but it's there.

Don't expect a diamond encrusted, golden ruler - its just a thin, metallic, useful ruler :D

The accursed thing did exactly what I wanted it to do, measuring up. Of curse, as to the nature of the thing, it inched off and hid somewhere, probably ruling some dust bunnies with an straight edge.
