This is an excellent back country guide. It's great to know approximately what you're getting into before you hike into the backcountry, and drop into a stash with little knowledge of where it may lead. I've had a few experiences where I had to hike many miles to get back to a road. The book is very detailed, and has an excellent assortment of trails in New England, and the Adirondacks. I've only have experience with the northern Vermont trails, but I'm sure the others are just as good.
